Objectives: To propose an innovative method of jawline correction based on the natural process of skin tightening due to the important collagen production
Introduction: Thinking about youth appearance we imagine the V shape of the face. Hence, one of the most evident signs of aging is the irregularity of the jawline. Non-surgical correction of this anatomical area is very requested. Along with traditional fillers, today there is a demand for more natural treatments based on tissue regeneration and collagen production stimulation.
Materials / method: 5 patients with sagginess of the skin in the jawline have undergone 3 monthly sessions of poly-d,l-lactic acid (PDLLA) injections. The product was reconstituted with sterile water for injection (8 ml), at the end of this process 2 ml of lidocaine 2% was added to make the treatment more comfortable for the patients. The product was injected using a 25 G 7 cm long cannula in the superficial subcutaneous layer.
Results: All the patients completed the trial. The subjective satisfaction was very high. No side
effects, except some bruising in one patient, were observed. The improvement of the jawline evaluated by the 3D photosystem was evident.
Conclusion: The new injectable PDLLA seems to be safe and effective. However, the number of
patients was too little. A new study with more patients and longer follow-up is necessary to confirm this preliminary clinical observation.
